Sleep is one of the most mysterious biological processes.
Humans spend a substantial portion of life unconscious, yet sleep appears deeply connected to restoration and normal brain function.
What if a person required dramatically less sleep?
The Twenty-Four-Hour Advantage
Imagine someone who needs only two hours of high-quality sleep each night.
They would gain enormous waking time.
Over a year, the difference could amount to thousands of hours.
Over decades, the individual could effectively receive years of additional conscious time.
Why Sleep Is Difficult to Eliminate
Sleep appears to perform multiple functions.
Different stages are associated with different physiological and cognitive processes.
Simply suppressing sleep would therefore not necessarily be beneficial.
The hypothetical short-sleep human would need to accomplish essential restorative functions much more efficiently.
Compressed Restoration
Perhaps the brain enters unusually efficient restorative states.
Perhaps metabolic waste is cleared more effectively.
Perhaps memory consolidation occurs rapidly.
Perhaps cellular repair proceeds at an accelerated rate.
These are speculative mechanisms.

The Social Consequence
A short-sleep human would live in a different temporal world.
While everyone else sleeps, they remain active.
They could learn, work, build, read, explore, or create.
Their advantage would not necessarily be physical.
It would be time itself.
