A linguistic supermind would possess extraordinary control over vocabulary, grammar, semantics, translation, rhetoric, and conceptual framing.
Language as a Cognitive Tool
Different words can make different distinctions.
A precise vocabulary can permit precise thought.
The linguistic genius may therefore construct mental categories unavailable to someone with less linguistic differentiation.
The Polyglot Mind
Imagine someone capable of learning new languages extremely quickly.
Each language exposes different grammatical structures and cultural concepts.
The individual gains multiple perspectives on communication.
The Dangerous Side
Language can persuade as easily as it can educate.
A person with extraordinary rhetorical ability could manipulate groups.
The linguistic superhuman would therefore possess a form of social power.
The ethical problem becomes unavoidable:
Should someone capable of influencing millions have greater responsibility for how language is used?
